As the leading dental practice in West Los Angeles, CCIND prides itself in expertly placing implants for over 27 years. Dental implants are an excellent method of replacing missing teeth. They are a fixed alternative to full or partial dentures.
Dental implants replace the roots of teeth and provide a strong foundation for restorations such as a crowns, bridges, or dentures.Dental implants are surgically placed into the upper or lower jaw bone. They are made out of titanium, which is highly biocompatible and able to fuse with the surrounding bone for long term stability.
Advantages of dental implants:
- Replace missing teeth without affecting adjacent teeth
- Resolve joint pain or bite problems caused by teeth shifting into missing tooth space
- Restore your smile and self-esteem- implants look and feel like your natural smile.
- Restore speech- eliminate anxiety about slipping dentures
- Restore chewing- eliminate pain from sliding dentures
- Restore or enhance facial tissues
- More comfortable- implants support bridges or dentures, making them more secure and comfortable
- More convenient- no more messy adhesives associated with removable dentures
- Durability- implants are very strong and last many years
What does the placement of dental implants involve?
The process of getting implants requires various visits over the span of several months. First, x-rays and impressions (molds) of your jaw will be taken to determine the bone and gum tissue spacing. Using this information, our highly qualified dentist will determine the best treatment plan to fit your individual needs. Next, the area will be numbed with a local anesthetic and the implant will be surgically inserted into the bone socket of the missing tooth. Depending on the case, sometimes two surgeries will be necessary. Healing can take from six to twelve weeks during which the jawbone will grow around the implant.
After several weeks, the dentist will take an impression or mold of your mouth, which will be used to make artificial teeth. These artificial teeth will be color-matched and fitted to attach to the implants. To achieve the best possible fit, this process may require a number of appointments. Once the desired fit has been reached, the artificial teeth will be securely attached to the implant. These new teeth will look and feel like your real teeth to create your new stable and comfortable smile.
At CCIND, we strive to maintain your natural teeth and use extraction only as a last resort. However, in certain circumstances it may sometimes be necessary to remove a tooth. A tooth may need to be extracted as a last resort to badly broken or decayed teeth, as a result of periodontal (gum) disease, or prior to getting dental treatments such as braces or implants.
Our highly trained dentists are adept at creating a relaxed, comfortable environment for our patients and skillfully extracting the tooth to make the procedure as painless as possible. If a tooth is visible, it can usually just be loosened and removed with only local anesthesia. If a tooth is hidden, then an incision must be made in the gums so the tooth can be accessed. In this situation, general anesthesia is usually used. After the procedure, the bleeding will be stopped by biting on some gauze. During the next few days, there may be some blood or swelling and painkillers may be taken if necessary.
Our patients trust us to make dental appointments as painless and relaxed as possible. Call us today to set up an appointment or personal consultation.
