Once your dentist has determined that you are a good candidate for porcelain veneers, your teeth will be prepared for the application. The dentist will administer a local anesthesia and a half millimeter of the tooth’s surface will be removed to fit the veneer properly. Then an impression of the teeth will be taken so the veneers can be properly fitted. It takes approximately two weeks for your custom veneers to be made.
When the porcelain veneers are ready, the dentist will fit them properly to your teeth and ensure they are also the right color. Your teeth will then be cleaned, polished, and etched to ensure that the bond between the veneers and your teeth is and remains strong. The veneers are then bonded to your teeth with dental cement and final adjustments are made.
The result is a perfect smile. The porcelain veneers resist stains, maintaining your beautiful smile and it reflects light just like natural teeth, so the look is brighter but natural. As with any procedure, there are pros and cons that you should discuss with your dentist so you can decide if porcelain veneers are right for you.
