HOMEMADE PEARLY WHITES: EXPLORING DIY AND OVER-THE-COUNTER WHITENING OPTIONS

You’ve seen the commercials and read about them online: cheap treatments to whiten your teeth. But do they really work? Are they quality, or do you get what you pay for? Come with us as we explore some of your many different options.DIY Treatments: More Than Just Baking Soda?

Even though you might be trying to save some money, keep in mind that the majority of DIY treatments do not workteeth whitening—and if they do, they will not provide the same bright or long-lasting effect that comes with more professional treatments. Common ingredients in DIY teeth whitening treatments include:

  • Baking soda
  • Strawberries
  • Bananas
  • Peroxide
  • Apple Cider Vinegar
  • Essential oils, especially pepermint

If you’re going to try this at home, finding the right recipe is key! You will also need to make sure that your teeth are exposed to the materials for a long enough amount of time. There are a few effective ones out there; just be careful not to damage your teeth.

Over-the-Counter Treatments: Worth the Hassle?

Although many over-the-counter whitening treatments like to pretend that they’ll save you money and are really easy, a lot of them aren’t. The market is saturated with options though, such as:

  • Toothpastes
  • Rinses and mouthwashes
  • Strips
  • Tray systems
  • Gels

Obviously, these all operate on completely different levels. Toothpastes are great since you should already be using one, but they are less effective. Strips work well, but can be uncomfortable. Gels and tray systems are the same, with the added con of mess. If you go this route, make sure you do your research, and then put your money where your mouth is. Stick with the regime, and hopefully you’ll see results.

Come In and See Us

If none of these systems are working for you, or you just want to skip straight ahead to what is sure to be the most effective option, come into our office and experience professional whitening treatments. They might be more expensive, but they are faster, more comfortable, and more effective in the long run.

The costs are incredibly high, even with insurance. I would not go back and not refer anyone. I am going to try to be placed with a different primary care dentist.

He is very patient and kind when dealing with TMD. I also like his techniques he uses to get to the root of the issue and not just patch it up like many dentists I have dealt with before.
